Beginning of the Year/Summer:
Parent Health Questionnaire (PHQ) PHQ-9. Through SportsWare, every student at the beginning of each year (summer or orientation day) is assessed. Student Wellness Coordinator Natasha Carpenter will look for high severity scores and communicate with counselors as well as keeping track of students on the PHQ-9 spreadsheet. Clinically significant students would be reassessed every semester.
PHQ-4 screens for anxiety during the physical:
– Director of Student Health Tim Moscicki will add clinically significant scores to the PHQ-4 spreadsheet to which Ms. Carpenter has access.
– Ms. Carpenter will communicate with the counselors.
Baseline concussion test:
– Asks about diagnoses of anxiety, depression and ADHD.
– Mr. Moscicki will make a list of names who checked yes to the above.
In January 2024, Loyola hosted two substance use prevention specialists from Pathways for Prevention to present to Loyola parents/guardians about teen substance use.
For those who were not able to attend, you can access the webinar recording by clicking this link, which also contains resources for parents on teen substance abuse.
If you have any additional questions, please contact Student Wellness Coordinator Dr. Natasha Carpenter at ncarpenter@loyolahs.edu.
Loyola does not endorse any of the resources/referrals listed, but is sharing information with parents so they can research and vet the different sites.
