Cub Clubs

The Assistant Principal for Student Life, Mr. Paul Jordan, is in charge of all nonacademic aspects of the school program. He is the chief coordinator and director of all co-curricular student activities and is assisted by Ms. Ann Hotchkiss, Director for Student Activities.

Amnesty International

Students founded the Loyola Chapter of Amnesty International in 1984. The purpose of this organization is to fulfill the mandate of this worldwide organization, to educate the Loyola community concerning human rights abuse throughout the world, and to write to governments concerning human rights infractions and “prisoners of conscience” within their countries. Mrs. Edwina Lynch is the moderator.

Association of African American Students

The Association of African-American Students is an organization that seeks to broaden Pan-African awareness with its members and throughout the student body. The Association additionally sees to promote tolerance and diversity within the school community. This club provides students with opportunities to learn more about the African culture through various events and activities.

Blue Pride

The Blue Pride Club is a service organization. The Club’s main responsibilities are prefecting at major school functions. These events include Masses, games, Open House, Entrance Exam and Entrance Interviews, Auction, Parent-Teacher nights, and assisting whenever the school deems necessary. Each member will be given a pledge sheet at the beginning of the academic year. Ms. Hotchkiss is the moderator.

California Scholarship Federation

The California Scholarship Federation stimulates interest and fosters pride in high school standards of scholarship encouraging further education for highly qualified young people. Through its purpose and organization, the Federation is ideally fitted to contribute to a nationwide effort to identify, motivate, and encourage students with intellectual ability. Its emphasis upon service seeks to develop unselfish and creative use of these abilities. Mr. Joy is the moderator.

Drama

Two productions, under the direction of Mr. Walter Wolfe, will be performed in Hannon Theatre this year. A drama will be presented in the fall, and a musical has been scheduled for the spring.

Earth and Space Science Society

This society, inaugurated in 1966, is Loyola’s main science/engineering club. It is chiefly involved with field trips throughout the western states in which students hike, camp, and visit sites of scientific interest such as volcanoes, caves, mines, observatories, fossil areas, tide pools, and so forth. The club also meets two to three times a week to view movies and work in the lab. Mr. Aristov is the moderator.

El Camino

The El Camino is the student yearbook. It is published by the students and distributed in May of each year. Mr. Brown is the moderator.

French Club

This club offers students an opportunity to participate in cultural activities related to France and la Francophonie in the world. Mr. Ebiner is the moderator.

German Club

The German Club is designed to promote the language and culture of German-speaking countries. Mr. Dave McClave is the moderator.

Intramural Sports

Organized tournaments in football, basketball, softball, and other sports will be played on selected Fridays throughout the year. These dates are in the school calendar and will be announced in the Daily Announcements. Students may participate in these tournaments with their friends.

Junior Classical League

JCL is an academic and social club for students. JCL is a national and state organization. Main events include building a catapult, chariot and training to compete in the state convention in the spring. The moderator is Ms. Yamauchi.

Loyalist

The Loyalist is the school newspaper and is one of the most active organizations on campus. Students are involved in virtually all phases of a magazine production - from writing and editing to computer-generated layout. The moderator is Mr. Michael.

Math Club

The purpose of the Math Club is to broaden and deepen the interest of its members in mathematics, to increase knowledge of the subject, and to pass on to others an appreciation of its value and beauty. Mr. Martin is the moderator.

Monogram Club

A service club comprised of students who have achieved a varsity letter and maintained at least a 3.0 G.P.A. These student leaders act as representatives of Loyola at various functions. Mr. Pascale is the moderator.

Music Program

Under the leadership of Mr. Steven Speciale, Loyola’s Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers provide choral music for many liturgies and other school events. Highlights for the year will include a concert in October and two Christmas Concerts in December. Student instrumental musicians perform with the choirs in liturgies and concerts. Instrumental ensembles include band and orchestra.

Pre-Med Club

The Pre-Med Club aims to increase interest in medical science through visits to medical schools and related sites. Mr. Picard is the moderator.

Spanish Club

The Spanish Club is designed to promote the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

Speech & Debate

The Speech Club teaches its members public speaking and debate and gives them the opportunity to compete in speech tournaments with member schools of the California Speech Association. Mr. Zucker is the coach.

Student Government

All student body officers are executive members of the Student Council. The Council is the administrative board of Loyola’s student body. It provides leadership in all phases of campus life and conducts all of the business of the student body. The Student Council is an advisory body. It is made up of elected representatives from each class. It discusses student problems and develops plans and programs that it recommends to the Administration for possible action. Ms. Hotchkiss is the moderator.

The Pride

The Pride consists of enthusiastic students from Loyola High. They are responsible for promoting spirit at the football and basketball games, and for playing a supportive role for other sports. Mr. Wood is the moderator.

Windowpanes

Windowpanes, Loyola’s literary magazine is the showcase for the creative expression of all students. Published once a year under the direction of the English Department, Windowpanes features original poetry, stories, essays, drama, art, and photography. Mrs. Turner and Mr. Caldwell are the moderators.
