Campus Ministry
About the DepartmentThe Department of Campus Ministry is responsible for administering to the spiritual and religious needs of the school community and for providing opportunities for personal and spiritual growth and development. Campus Ministry offers unique and challenging opportunities through which students, parents, faculty, and staff can deepen their understanding and experience of themselves as human persons and their faith as Christians. Retreat ProgramFreshman YearThe entire Freshman Class, led by over 150 Junior and Senior Big Brothers and 75 faculty and staff, comes together on a weekend early in the Fall Semester for the Freshman Retreat which many call the highlight of the Freshman Year. Through discussion, community service, prayer and various shared activities with parents, faculty, and other students, the class is taught about the traditions of Loyola and introduced to our spiritual and religious foundations. By the end of the weekend, the freshmen have formed a new class identity and sense of community which lasts throughout their 4 years at Loyola. Sophomore YearEvery sophomore participates in a Day of Recollection in either the Fall or Spring Semester with their sophomore Theology class. These days away from campus at a local retreat center are led by students and faculty and serve to foster personal and spiritual growth within the experience of a Christian Community. Junior YearJuniors are invited to attend a three-day, two night retreat that focuses on the theme of Christian Leadership. Over 100 students take advantage of the opportunity to learn about themselves and their role in the community as a Christian Leader. The retreat is aimed at personal and spritual growth through communal sharing, praying, and celebration of the Eucharist. The Junior Leadership Retreats are directed by faculty and student leaders and offered five times a year. Senior YearSeniors are offered two different types of retreat: the Kairos Retreat and the Ignatian Quiet Retreat. With over 250 seniors participating, Kairos is one of the most popular Campus Ministry events. Each retreat is led primarily by a student team, who are partnered with faculty members. Kairos features talks by leaders in conjunction with small group sharing, liturgies, presentations, and prayer time. The Ignatian Quiet Retreat is a privately directed three-day retreat centered around personal prayer time and individual direction with a faculty member. Other MinistriesLiturgy & Prayer
