Loyola at a Glance

Our Students

How good are the track records of Loyola graduates? How many go on to college? What colleges do they attend? The annual statistics over the last four years are as follows:

  • A mean SAT score of 1864, with 100% of students taking the exam.
  • Last year 61 students were honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corportation, including 8 National Merit Finalists, 23 Commended Students, 16 who received National Hispanic Scholarships and 6 recipients of an award from the National Achievement Scholarship program for Outstanding African-American students.
  • 99% of graduates go on to college immediately, 96% at four-year universities.
  • In the last few years, about one-third of Loyola graduates have chosen to enroll at a UC campus, the majority at UC Berkeley and UCLA, 190 at a Jesuit college or university, 125 at USC, over 50 at an Ivy League school, 18 at Stanford, and the list goes on.

Our remarkable record of college attendance is largely due to the pervasive Loyola spirit. By the time you graduate from Loyola, you will embody six distinct characteristics that mark the Loyola graduate at graduation. A Loyola graduate is a young man who is open to growth, is intellectually distinguished, religious, committed to justice, loving and developing as a leader.

Our Faculty

The Loyola faculty is a diverse group 86 men, women, and Jesuits who are highly qualified classroom teachers. More than sixty members of the faculty have advanced degrees, Masters and PhD’s.  Along with their classroom assignments at Loyola, many are also professors at local colleges and universities. They are contributing lecturers and also are published reviewers in the arts. Their competency and commitment to Loyola students is a major part of the Loyola Experience. The generosity of their time for duties inside the classroom as well as countless activities outside the classroom makes them a tremendous model for our young men to emulate.

Personal, Academic and College Counseling

We have counselors who care. No one is expected to go through high school without experiencing one problem or another. That’s why we make sure that students have a personal counselor and an advisor to help them over those occasional rough spots. In other words, you have someone to talk to at the faculty level, a person who will listen and help you work things out.

Your counselor takes a personal interest in you and your progress. This is a one-to-one relationship. Often your counselor can help you turn a problem into an opportunity to grow. You may never need to talk seriously with your counselor, but you will get to know and trust each other as human beings. The personal counseling available at Loyola is another important reason why our students are successful. Seven full-time counselors are here to help you succeed in your preparations for college and life, and the same counselor follows you through your four years here at Loyola.
