Principal Charles Tilley, SJ

Fr. Chuck Tilley, SJRev. Charles J. Tilley, S.J. became principal of Loyola High School on July 1, 2007. Before returning to Loyola as principal, Fr. Tilley served a 10-year term as principal of Mission Prep in the Diocese of Monterey, California. At Mission, he oversaw the successful completion of the $10 million Mission for the 21st Century campaign. During his tenure, enrollment increased, facilities were upgraded and a retreat program was instituted. He also hired the school’s first full-time development director and maintained 10 years of balanced budgets in a school that had financial and enrollment challenges before his arrival.

Fr. Tilley previously served at Loyola High School from 1986 to 1993, where he taught English and Drama, and was a department chair. He began his career at Brophy Prep in Phoenix, where he launched the drama department, taught English and journalism, and moderated the school newspaper. Immediately prior to becoming principal at Mission Prep, he taught Religion and English at Bellarmine Prep in San Jose, where he also oversaw the school’s yearbook.

He entered the California Novitiate in September 1973. Fr. Tilley earned a master of arts in Education at the University of San Francisco; a master of Sacred Theology at Regis College in Toronto; a master of Divinity at the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley; his B.A. at St. Louis University in Missouri; and also previously studied at Loyola Marymount University.
